"The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral, begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy. Instead of diminishing evil, it multiplies it. Through violence you may murder the liar, but you cannot murder the lie, nor establish the truth. Through violence you may murder the hater, but you do not murder hate. In fact violence merely increases hate. So it goes. Returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that."
-Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.

"What is a Private Diplomat?"
Within the “Conflict Arts” there is both a martial art and a system of verbal conflict management that combined will provide every man woman and child with a unique and empowering approach to all human conflict. This approach demands much more from its practitioners than most martial arts alone ever can, as these other arts are suited only to mere physical survival, or for developing the ability to do harm to an enemy. The ultimate goal of Conflict Arts training is not merely to subdue and control a physical opponent, but rather to rise above our irrational and instinctual animal responses to such problems, not only within ourselves but also within others, and to cultivate and actualize the essential spark of humanity and reason that lies deep within us all. Beyond the now archaic models for martial chivalry that have been handed down to us from more primitive times, Conflict Arts training helps to groom a new breed of hero for a more civilized, and more complicated, world. Those human beings so transformed by studying the Conflict Arts can become Private Diplomats.
The Physical Conflict Management part of our school contains all of those practices that one would naturally expect to find in the martial arts, such as striking, grappling and evasive techniques, as well as an effective system of physical development and conditioning. Yet our study of Verbal Conflict Management refers to an even more important, and unique, communicative focus of the art of diplomacy, because in the Conflict Arts, you learn that your most valuable weapon is your voice.
To efficiently champion goodness within an information age, the training of each Diplomat is aimed at producing the most effective messenger possible. Although much of our diplomatic training is martial, these physical skills, although important, are viewed as lesser arts, intended to merely encourage the expression of each Diplomat’s far more essential understanding of logic, psychology, and ethics, arts that are indispensable to them in their pursuit of heroic diplomacy. This unique blend of physical and mental training is designed to instill within each Diplomat not only the courage to speak and act, which one might imagine comes more easily to those with such formidable physical abilities, but also the necessary wisdom to understand precisely what needs to be said and done in order to advance everyone towards the best ends possible. Therefore, the two most important heroic attributes to be cultivated by the true Diplomat are courage and wisdom; to become not only bold and efficacious, but ultimately more ecological in their words and actions as well.
How To Use This Manual
This Online Conflict Arts Manual was created as a learning resource for students of the Conflict Arts everywhere. Anyone who wishes to test for membership within the ranks of our Private Diplomats will find all of the basic requirements for that honor here. Among these requirements you will find an introduction to each of the Conflict Arts seven styles, those important schools of conflict management that all Diplomats are encouraged to pursue far beyond the mere basics that are required for membership in our society.
One of Conflict Arts International’s greatest strengths comes from our school's willingness to adapt itself to the best resources that are currently available in any given place. Even if you are unable to reach a certified Conflict Arts instructor in your area, there are plenty of schools that offer comparable training, training that may help you to develop the types of skills described in this manual. If you are fortunate enough to find someone who can competently teach you skills that are comparable to those described in the following chapters, we here at Conflict Arts International sincerely encourage you to take full advantage of that opportunity.
However, if you must, for any reason, train outside of our Academy, we do encourage you to contact us to tell us where you are receiving your training. That way one of our qualified instructors may then make sure that your “opportunity” isn’t actually taking advantage of you.
